The climate on the Costa Brava is Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot, dry summers. Average temperatures reach 25° in June, rising to 28° in July and August. They return to 25° in September. In July, you'll enjoy nine hours of sunshine every day.
In October, temperatures average around 21° during the day. If you like to go for a walk in the evening, you'll enjoy temperatures of around 15°. November is characterized by a marked drop, with temperatures averaging 16° during the day.
As for the winter months, expect an average daytime temperature of around 13° in December, January and February. Temperatures rise with the arrival of spring, averaging 16° in March, 18° in April and 21° in May.
So if you're about to retire and can't stand the cold, the climate on the Costa Brava could certainly be for you. However, if you're planning tobuying property on the Costa Brava and you're offered an apartment, you should be aware that it can get very hot in summer if it faces south, especially if it's on a high floor. So it's a good idea to install air conditioning or at least insulating curtains on the windows.
On the other hand, very old or frail people who might not be able to stand the heat should choose housing with moderate exposure to the sun, to avoid the risk of summer ailments.
