Spanish culture is renowned for its deeply rooted traditions and folklore. When you buy a house or apartment on the Costa Brava, or go on vacation to this beautiful region, you have the opportunity to experience unforgettable moments. Before you head off to the Costa Brava this autumn, here's a quick look at the 4 best things to see and do there this time of year.
The chestnut festival
If you're on the Costa Brava on October 31 or November 1, here's an event you won't want to miss. As well as celebrating the dead, All Saints' Day is an opportunity to celebrate the arrival of autumn with the Castanyada (literally, chestnut festival), a popular event where everyone gathers around delicious seasonal specialities. Families and friends gather to enjoy baked sweet potatoes, roasted chestnuts and panellets, a Catalan specialty made from marzipan.
La Vila Vella de Tossa Mar
On a small peninsula to the south of a beautiful Tossa de Mar beach, you can discover the old town surrounded by fortified medieval walls. This same fortress was built in the 12th century to protect the town from pirate attacks from North Africa. Through the narrow streets, you can discover a thriving district of restaurants and a wealth of vegetation along the cobbled streets, which blends perfectly with the blue of the sea. A change of scenery guaranteed!
Saint Narcis Fair
The extraordinary thing about the Saint Narcis Fair is that curiosity is always the same when it comes to the effervescence of the city of Girona. No one wants to miss the inaugural speech that launches the festivities. If you want to experience this moment from a traditional perspective, all you have to do is follow the dancing procession through the Devesa. This is the promenade where you'll find the Trade Fair, home to industrial, agricultural and commercial attractions. There's entertainment for young and old alike.
Salvador Dali House Museum
Close to the town of Roses, it's a place of pilgrimage for all admirers of the surrealist artist. Now a museum, it was the only stable residence of the painter Salvador Dali. This large, immaculate building is located in the small village of Port Lligat. In the same place, you can find rooms where Dali and his wife Gala spent their most intimate moments, workshops and outdoor spaces designed for public life.
